WitchFest is committed to reducing barriers so disabled people can participate in our website, festival and community activities with dignity, independence and choice. We aim to design access from the beginning rather than treating accommodation as an afterthought.
Website accessibility
WitchFest’s target standard is WCAG 2.2 Level AA for new and materially updated web content. We aim to provide keyboard access, visible focus, sufficient colour contrast, meaningful headings and link text, text alternatives for informative images, captions/transcripts where reasonably available, form labels and error messages, zoom/reflow support, and a reduced-motion experience where motion is not essential. An accessibility toolbar may supplement these practices but does not replace accessible design and testing.
Festival access
- Publish practical access information before the event: step-free routes, surfaces, entrances, washrooms, seating/rest areas, quiet/low-sensory options if available, lighting, sound, weather exposure, and transit/drop-off information.
- Provide a clear way to request disability-related accommodation before or during the event.
- Train volunteers to respond respectfully and to escalate accommodation requests to an Access Lead.
- Do not require a person to disclose a diagnosis. Ask what barrier exists and what accommodation would help.
- Permit certified guide and service dog teams as required by BC law and consider other disability-related animal accommodation requests under applicable human-rights obligations.
- Provide alternatives where a particular activity cannot be made fully accessible without undue hardship, and document the assessment.
Feedback
Send accessibility feedback and accommodation requests via our contact form. Please tell us the barrier you encountered and, if you wish, what would make participation easier. WitchFest will respond in an accessible format on request where reasonably possible. Accommodation requests are handled confidentially and shared only with people who need the information to arrange access.
This voluntary accessibility plan will be reviewed at least annually and after each festival. WitchFest will track barriers, actions taken and unresolved items, and will seek feedback from disabled community members.
